I absolutely love these boots. I have them in black and light cognac and the leather is wonderfully soft and they go with everything. I ordered in both regular and extended calf sizes since I knew Frye runs on the small side. My calf size measures 14.75 inches, so I ended up going with the extended calf to accommodate boot socks and jeans. If I planned to wear with tights, the regular calf size would be a bit tight at first and then would soften up. I do have one and only complaint- the manufacturing of these boots is definitely inconsistent. I had to order (and return) multiple pairs of the same boots because the belt was bent on two pairs that I tried, one came all scuffed up, and the calves were uneven on another pair. I persisted and ended up with two pairs that I’m super happy with. I love them so much that I ordered a pair in black for my sister for Christmas. These came the other day and sadly, the calves are HUGE- much larger than the two pairs that I bought myself. Same size, color, calf, everything; but they’re enormous. Back to the post office for me! I’ll return and try another of the same pair and hope for better luck. Overall, these boots are fab, if you’re willing to put in the time to keep ordering and returning until you find the right pair.

Perfect! I’d never worn Frye but have only good things. So I decided to give them I try. I love these boots. They’re stylish, excellent quality and the rich leather is soft but not flimsy.
I’m not sure why some say they smell awful, it’s just the scent of good leather.

It’s a nice boot but didn’t seem worth the price. It was a bit narrow in the calf and I found the color not to be true to what was in the picture and not as nice.

This is a nice boot. I’ve never bought boots quite this expensive before and I think I was expecting more… The shaft is on the narrow side – I can zip them over leggings, barely, and I have average calves – don’t usually have any issues with the shaft, but these were very tight. I’m guessing that’s not an issue though because they are leather, so they’ll stretch I’m sure. The Black color is also very worn. I’m looking for a casually dressy boot that I can dress up or down, but I think you can only dress down with these. I haven’t decided if I’m keeping these because at this price, they need to replace 2 pair of boots for me (one dressy & one more casual).

This boot is beautiful. The ankle area is a touch tight/uncomfortable, but I agree with another reviewer that this can be stretched, and I wouldn’t want it to be too roomy. The footbed is very comfortable. I’m a size 8.5-9, and the 8.5 fit is perfect. At this price, the leather should be of better quality. Overall, a painful return because the price is too high. I hope to give these a 2nd chance in the near future.

Beautiful leather and style, but the shaft did seem too narrow, plus the zipper rubbed my ankle on one side and I couldn’t get comfortable in them. For that much money, the needed to be perfect and they were not. Close- but nope.

I wanted to love these boots, I really did. I have been on the hunt for a high quality brown pair of boots that would last me a long time. Upon opening, the boots are beautiful and the smell of the leather is very strong. While it did fit true to size and I appreciated the narrow shaft/calf circumference, it wasn’t very comfortable. Every time I took a step, I could feel the section below the belt bend into my foot, in addition to the side zipper at the level of my ankle that would also bend in. It was a little painful and I didn’t want to sacrifice comfort << pain, especially because these boots are on the more expensive end. I am back on the hunt again!

These arrived in a plain, unmarked box (no Frye markings at all on the box). They were not well packaged; the blank box and poor packing made them appear fake. These were intended as a gif,t but due to packaging I will return and order directly from Frye as they were not suitable for gifting.

The boots are beautiful but the leather on one was much more worn/distressed than the other. Also, the zipper dug into my legs right above my ankle. Comments have said that the boot shaft was narrow but I didn’t’ have any problems. I have big feet and thin legs so for once I felt like the boot shaft fit well. I will be exchanging for a smaller size and I HOPE that there is not the same problem with the pain from the zipper.

Loved the style but for $358 the fit needed to be perfect. The boot cut into my ankle bone. Maybe I have extra large ankle bones. Walking in them for 5 minutes left my ankle red where it was rubbing. Not something I’m willing to see if they’ll break in. Back they go…

I was looking forward to loving these boots but sadly they were a disappointment. I’ve had Frye boots in the past that were quality leather and crafted well, but these are not up to standard. I also ordered the extended width which was not any larger than the regular size calf. I’m not sure what part of the boot was supposed to extended, but it wasn’t the calf.

I am usually a BIG fan of Frye boots and have purchased multiple pairs over the years. I am somewhat of a boot affection-ado, and don’t mind shelling out for good quality boots with some kicking style. And Frye usually delivers on both, and they are well made and last forever. However, these boots were a HUGE disappointment, and are immediately going back to Zappos. Right out of the box, they looked cheap and not at all like the good quality leather I am used to from Frye. In fact, they actually looked like they were made of plastic or some type of cheap synthetic material. If that wasn’t bad enough, the smell coming off the boots was very strong and started giving me a headache and I had to take the box to the garage to package them up to return. It was not that lovely leather smell I was expecting, but some very pungent chemical smell that was seriously overpowering. I wanted to love these boots, (the style is actually really cute!), but there is NO way I am keeping them at this price and with how cheaply made they appear. At this price I expected much better. I hope that this is not the new norm for Frye boots.

This is a very elegant boot. Can be dressed up for down. I love the flat, unpolished leather, It has a slim silhouette and looks great with skirts and leggings.
Regarding fit: This boot was both narrower than usual, but also a bit longer. I usually run between a size 8 and an 8.5. The 8.5 was quite narrow, but it was easily a half-inch or more longer than it needed to be. So, unfortunately, it makes my feet look bigger than they are. I opted to keep the 8.5, because I felt an 8 would have felt too small, due to the width. The leather is stiff, but I am hoping it will soften up over time.

I think some of the previous reviews of this boot were a little harsh. The leather isn’t quite as supple as my other Frye tall boots, but I think with some wear and maybe some leather conditioner, they will break in nicely. I have athletic 15” calves so I ordered the extended, and they JUST zipped,
so I would agree that the shaft is pretty small. Like some other Frye boots, they run just a little long: I’m typically an 8.5 but considering ordering the 8 to compare. They are also a little narrow in the foot. Overall, they are nice boots, but not on par with other Fryes. I’m keeping them because I love the style, but I can see why others are hesitant to recommend them.

I am so glad I went ahead and bought these boots. The color is beautiful and the leather is perfect.
Ladies, if you are worried about your thick calves not fitting in them, let me just say that my calves are no where near 15 1/4 and one of my calves is bigger than the other. But leather STRETCHES! I had my boots on and zipped by the end of the day. I took my time zipping them up inch by inch. I use a slightly damp washcloth and warm it up in the microwave and lay it across the shaft of the boot to slowly help the leather to stretch. I continue to repeat this step until the zipper is closed. Then I keep them on for the remainder of the day and the leather dries. I’ve also done this to a pair of Anne Klein boot that were tight as well.
These have become my favorite pair of boots and I’m sooo glad I got them on sale for half off the original price.

Gorgeous, high-quality boots made of beautiful leather. I had to go a half size down from my normal size. The fit is definitely narrow, and calf is also very narrow, but worked well for me because I have skinny legs.

I wanted to love these boots. They are a beautiful color, high-quality leather, decent arch support. BUT, they are definitely not wide calf. I don’t have gigantic calves — can even get away with regular calf boots sometimes. But these didn’t zip up past my calf muscle. Sadly, they’re going back.

Loved the look and design of this boot but it was simply too tight in the calf.

Absolutely gorgeous leather boots and wonderful craftsmanship. And the fit is perfect. I absolutely LOVE these boots. FYI, when you put them on for the first time you will think they are too small. They are NOT. There is more than enough room in the foot and leg. I wore mine for 45 minutes around the house after I put them on (with a bit of a struggle) for the first time, and once they were on they were comfortable and perfect. In that short time the leather stretched in the ankle and the leg so that now I put them on and zipper them with no problem. I even wear my leggings tucked inside comfortably. They are also true to size. These boots are wonderful!

These boots are amazing! They fit true to size, and the leather is beautiful and soft.

The fit was perfect. Had ordered a pair of 8 1/2s from a highly reputable company which were too big. Since they didn’t have an 8, I tried Zappos. Couldn’t be more satisfied. Beautiful Frye boots made of high-quality leather.

These Frye boots are both beautiful and of very high quality, which typifies this company’s history with me. Unblemished, perfect fit and very prompt delivery. A highly satisfied Zappos customer!

The zipper of the left book seems defective. When zipped up it digs into your skin. I had to unzip the boots to get comfort. Unwearable, in my opinion.

Fit and size were good. Material seems a little cheaper than typical Frye boots. Not as comfortable.

Quality leather, holds its shape. I love these boots which were a gift from my husband.
